Mudeford Wood Community Centre (MWCC) is set within the heart of the community, just a short distance from both Christchurch and Highcliffe, surrounded by woodland walks and the River Mude, and adjacent to a large recreation ground and children’s playground.
The centre consists of our main hall and 2 other rooms, as well as a brand new kitchen and multi- purpose sports courts.
Our motto is ‘Something for everyone’ and we really do have a fantastic range of clubs and classes, from Play group and Tiny Tots all the way to Age Concern’s Friendship Club. Alongside our great indoor facilities we also have Multi-purpose sports courts which are perfect for tennis as well as many other sports including football and netball. Check out our current list of activities here.
All our facilities can also be hired out for that special occasion, with parties frequently held with us, from children’s football parties on our sports courts to Ruby wedding anniversary celebrations. You can hire out just one room or a combination of rooms all the way to having the full centre all to yourself. See the Facilities and Bookings page for more information.
Mudeford Wood Community Centre was opened in the mid 1980s by Christchurch Borough Council, however in September 2009 the Centre was placed under review for potential closure.
The Community support for the facilities was so overwhelming that local residents formed the Friends of Mudeford Wood (FOMW) to safeguard the Centre and surrounding facilities and to persuade the council that it was still a valuable resource to the community.
In August 2010, Christchurch Borough Council asked the Friends of Mudeford Wood to investigate taking over the running of the facility on the basis that it be leased to the Community. The Friends Group therefore created an incorporated charity, Mudeford Wood Community Trust – consisting of nine local residents, Centre users and Councillors.
On the 1st April 2012 the Trust became responsible for the day-to-day running of the Centre, with continued support from the council.
MWCC is heavily reliant upon volunteers to manage the day-to-day running of the Centre, so if you could offer some help – from manning the bookings office to helping with fundraising – please call Vicky Fuller on 01425 272084 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The centre celebrated its Jubilee this year and at 25 years old it is in need of some updates, last year we had a brand new kitchen fitted with fantastic facilities now in place, and the next planned stage of the development is even bigger, with a rear extension and a brand new dedicated section of the centre for the Mudeford Wood Playgroup. This will be fantastic as it will mean that the playgroup will be able to extend its offering to the local community and will mean that the centre will have more space available for new and exciting clubs and classes.
